I saw the Thunder Spin Fly in Bluegill Fly Fishing and Flies by Terry and Roxxane Wilson. It's a fly originally developed for stripped bass fishing,. Kentucky Lake guide downsized it for trophy bluegill. I want to see if it will catch catfish.
Thunder Spin fly pattern is fascinating because it places the spinner at the rear of the lure instead of the front as in my Dodger Discs.
You can make thunder spin fly patterns out of most any bait fish pattern. As I understand they were made for stripped bass to mimic shad.
For Thunder spin fly tying pick your favorite bait fish pattern, then add a spinner. The main thing is the swivel. a traditional swivel works, but I'm testing it with one of my long stem swivels.
Thunder spin fly tying patterns includes most any streamer down to about size 8. I'm working with 2/0 hooks as that is about as big as my vice will hold.
